Captions are the same language subtitles shown on the screen and describe the dialogue spoken by people in the videos, they introduce each speaker and describe all important sounds that are inaccessible to Deaf people and those with reduced hearing.

Captions can be two types:

  1. Closed captions meaning the viewer has to turn them on or off, which is acceptable for personal viewing; or
  2. Open captions, meaning they are burnt directly into the video and visible at all times, which is just perfect for any public place, workplace and within any public building.
